WHAT'S ON?

Get excited for the inaugural ‘Wangaratta Esports Cup’ is proudly presented by the Rural City of Wangaratta, a whole weekend of Esports and Video games taking over the Wangaratta Library in Wangaratta, Victoria.

Including over a $1,000 prize pool spread across tournaments in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate & Mario Kart 8!

Participate for some fun, meet like-minded players and prove you are the best of the best to be crowned a Wangaratta Cup champion of 2022!

This event is able to happen thanks to the support of FReeZA a Victorian Government initiative that supports young Victorians to get involved in their community by planning and running drug, smoke and alcohol-free music and cultural events for other young people.
Plus the Grit & Resilience team who work with the community to better understand what drives positive mental health and wellbeing will also be supporting this event.

Join in the 1 v 1 Super Smash Bros. tournament today and represent your school in a showcase for which school has the best gamer!

Exclusive to High School Students

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, school students are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

Equipment:

Only joycons will be provided to participate, players are encouraged to bring their own controller if they do not wish to use joycons.
*GameCube adapters provided

Prizes:

1st place will receive a RIG headset

Minecraft High School event

Join in the Minecraft High School tournament today and represent your school in a showcase for which school has the best gamer!

Exclusive to High School Students

Format:

Played on PC, school students will be given a time limit to build an object in creative mode, at the end of the time limit their buildings will be judged.

Prizes:

1st place will receive a RIG headset

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ( 1 v 1 )

Join in the 1 v 1 SSBU tournament today to show off your skills to compete for a share of the $750 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, players are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 64 players is available for this competition.

Equipment:

Only joycons will be provided to participate, players are encouraged to bring their own controller if they do not wish to use joycons.
*GameCube adapters provided

Prizes:

1st place will receive $400 in cash
2nd place will receive $200 in cash
3rd place will receive $100 in cash
4th place will receive $50 in cash

Mario Kart 8

Join in the Mario Kart tournament today and prove you are the fastest around the track to compete for a share of the $175 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch, players are arranged into pools of 8 to play against one another to advance from their pool into the championship pool to play until the champion is determined.
150cc, All Karts

A maximum cap of 32 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $100 in cash
2nd place will receive $50 in cash
3rd place will receive $25 in cash

Rocket League ( 2 v 2 )

Join in the 2 v 2 Rocket League tournament today to show off your skills to compete for a share of the $150 prize pool.

Format:

Played on PC in 2 v 2 format, players are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 16 teams is available for this competition.

Equipment:

Only keyboard and mouse will be provided to participate, players are encouraged to bring their own controller if they do not wish to use keyboard & mouse

Prizes:

1st place will receive $100 in cash
2nd place will receive $50 in cash

Is the event open to anyone?

This event is open to all. Players must be aged 13 years or older to compete in the esports competitions, those under the age of 16 we kindly request they obtain their parent’s permission to participate.

Are there any other restrictions to play?

Each game has a player cap, please check the information above to confirm how many can register for each event. Registrations are accepted on a first-in best-dressed basis. Players of all skill levels are welcome!

The games you've chosen are amazing, but what if I play something else?

Never played the games on offer and think you may actually like them? Don’t be afraid. Sign up anyway. We won’t judge.

In the future we may have other games on offer, follow our socials to hear about any future tournaments or let us know if you have a suggestion!

And exactly how does one win?

It’s a numbers game.

Players will compete over the course of the tournament. The best of the best will face each other in a Grand Finals to determine who the ultimate winner.
