2018 AEL University Cup

In an effort to support further structured and well governed esports competition, the Australian Esports League are proud to introduce the University Cup as an annual league exclusive to university students from Australia, designed to support the growth and development of Australian esports by establishing solid foundations and career pathways.

With a focus on the students and community who form the core and heart of esports, we aim to create an environment within the university ecosystem to engage and excite players who are interested in esports and video game culture.

Be the next champion and represent your university!

Beginning April 2018, the AEL University Cup will feature intense competition between students representing their university for a share of prizes and the ultimate prestige of taking home the AEL University Cup. The AEL University Cup comprises of two halves per year, each aligned to the active study semesters. Each half is played out over three stages starting with an online round robin, online playoffs and culminating in the live grand finals event hosted in Sydney, Australia.

Players are invited to compete in any one of the following titles for a share of a AUD $15,000!

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • Dota 2
  • Rocket League

Additional titles will be added over the course of the year with specific information to each game included.

Selected matches will be streamed each competition week from the AEL Studio facility located in the Sydney CBD, with the AEL supporting additional career pathways for interested students to try their hands at live production, administration, refereeing and commentating.

Additional information will be released shortly with registrations opening after the orientation week period in March 2018.

Australian Esports Association

The AEL University Cup is officially sanctioned by the AESA and will operate in accordance to the values, policies and beliefs of the AESA. To ensure the integrity of the competition and promote a safe, fair and inclusive esports environment for all.

Established in 2013 the AESA is the official member representing Australia at the International Esports Federation (IESF). The AESA is working with federal government agencies to formally recognise esports, with a focus on developing good governance, athlete welfare and industry standards.

The IESF is currently comprised of 46-member nations, 25 of which fully recognise esports at their respective National Olympic Committee (NOC) and sports authority, with the core goal of developing policy and regulation for esports across the globe. With the added goal of promoting and elevating esports into traditional sports societies such as the Olympics.
