Thousands of Territorians are expected to attend the fourth instalment of this unique all-ages event, held across three locations in the Palmerston City Centre: Goyder Square, the Palmerston Library and Recreation Centre.

With more exhibitors and entertainers planned than ever before; attendees will be treated to a range of free entertainment and activities including Major Esports and Cosplay Competitions, Pro Wrestling, Medieval Land, Virtual Reality, PC Play, Console and Tabletop Gaming, Anime, Demonstrations, Panels, Laser Tag, Mad Snake Collectors Fair/Artist Alley, Escape Room, Kids Zone and so much more.

Coming 10th July 2021, Australian Esports League (AEL) will host an exciting day of gaming & esports tournaments as part of Geekfest Top End 2021 (GFTE).

This year, City of Palmerston has worked with AEL to diversify their GFTE competitions with new and more inclusive tournaments and cosplay categories.

We are excited to announce the Female/LGBT+, High School and Adults esports tournament.

You can compete in Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate, Rocket League or Mortal Kombat 11 competitions, enter the cosplay competitions or just play some friendlies with your mates in the free play zones!

Get excited for the inaugural ‘Geekfest Top End Esports Cup’, a day of video game tournaments and cosplay competitions taking over Palmerston CBD with a total prize pool of over $10,000.

Esports tournaments include:

  • Opens – Rocket League

Under 18s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1 v 1)

Join in the 1 v 1 SSBU tournament today to show off your skills to compete for a share of the $800 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, 8 Players from the qualifiers will be invited to compete at the Geekfest Top End 2021 event with the top 2 players to appear on stage in front of an audience.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $500 in cash
2nd place will receive $200 in cash
3rd place will receive $100 in cash

Qualifiers:

In order to compete at the event you must qualify through one of the following:

  • Online Qualifier: Thursday 8th July at 6:00pm ACST (Top player qualifies)
  • LAN Qualifier: 10:00am morning of the event (Top 7 qualify)

Join in the 2 v 2 Rocket League tournament today to show off your skills to compete for a share of the $2800 prize pool.

Format:

Played on PC in 2 v 2 format, The top 2 teams from the online qualifiers go head to head at the Geekfest Top End 2021 event on stage in front of an audience.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $1600 in cash
2nd place will receive $800 in cash
3rd place will receive $400 in cash

In order to compete at the event you must qualify through the Online Qualifier taking place on Thursday 8th July at 6:30pm ACST.

Format:

Played on the PS4 in 1 v 1 format, players are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 64 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $500 in cash
2nd place will receive $200 in cash
3rd place will receive $100 in cash

COSPLAY COMPETITION

Calling all cosplayers! It’s your time to shine! So dust off those costumes because the City of Palmerston will be hosting the NTs biggest cosplay competition!

The competition is open to young and old with no prior experience required so get out those glue guns and get to crafting!

Entry fee:

There is no cost to enter the 2021 Geekfest Top End Cosplay Competition.

At the event:

From 4.00pm until 5.00pm, registered participants can collect their judging number from Palmerston Recreation Centre Info Desk. Please keep with you or pin this number to your outfit until the conclusion of the judging.

Make your way to the Judging area. You will be called up by your assigned judging number. Judges will review your entry before you make an appearance on the stage runway.

Judging criteria:

Costumes can be purchased or hired however total score will be broken down into the following areas:

  • 40% | Workmanship – How has the outfit been modified or created? What materials have been used?
  • 20% | Embodiment of Character – Voices, motions and phrases
  • 40% | Effort – Effort undertaken to complete the overall look of the character using make-up, hair, wigs or additional props

Palmerston Youth Festival

Returning in the 2021 July school holidays, the Palmerston Youth festival is set to be the biggest event on Palmerston’s calendar.

There will be plenty of free activities to discover – arts and culture, cooking masterclass, interactive activities, sporting events and of course Geekfest Top End will return embracing all things geek culture!

Targeted for young people aged 10-17, the festival runs from 10 to 16 July 2021.

The Palmerston Youth Festival is presented by the City of Palmerston and the Northern Territory Government.

Is the event open to anyone?

This event is open to all. To those under the age of 16 we kindly request they obtain their parent’s permission to participate.

How many players can register?

Each game has a player cap, please check the information above to confirm how many can register for each event. Registrations are accepted on a first in best dressed basis.

The games you've chosen are amazing, but what if I play something else?

Never played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League or Just Dance and think you may actually like it? Don’t be afraid. Sign up anyway. We won’t judge.

And exactly how does one win?

It’s a numbers game.

Players will compete over the course of the tournament. The best of the best will face each other in a Grand Finals to determine who the ultimate winner.
